Resentment is a Silent Killer
Something doesn’t feel quite right.
You’re still showing up. Still doing the work. But the spark that used to be there? It’s harder to access.
You brush it off, thinking you just need a break. But if you’re honest, it’s been lingering for a while now.
This quiet dissatisfaction might be resentment, and if left unchecked, it can seep into everything you’ve worked so hard to build.
You likely started your business with a clear vision. You had exciting idea of what it would be like to work for yourself.
But pretty soon, the reality kicks in: long hours, never-ending to-do lists, and the constant juggle of creative work and admin tasks. If you’re not careful, you can end up feeling completely suffocated by the very thing you were once so passionate about.
That’s when resentment can creep in, quietly, without you even realising it. Once it takes root, it festers. It feeds on your creative energy. It drains your motivation.
You start resenting your business.
You start resenting yourself.
If you don’t address it, it starts showing up in other areas of your life - your relationships, your wellbeing, your ability to create.
Resentment is powerful because it’s sneaky. It often disguises itself as something else: tiredness, frustration, cynicism.
Here are a few signs that resentment might have found its way into your day-to-day:
• That sinking feeling in your stomach when Monday rolls around.
• You used to be positive, but now you’re constantly irritable or withdrawn.
• You find yourself blaming others for things that wouldn’t have bothered you before.
If any of this sounds familiar, the first step is to name it. The longer you ignore resentment, the more space it takes up.
The goal isn’t to push it down or brush it off. You want to get curious about what it’s trying to tell you.
Start by talking to someone you trust. This could be a friend or a fellow business owner, someone who will listen without judgement. Resentment thrives in silence, but it loosens its grip when spoken out loud.
